With the highly anticipated Season 3 premiere of HBO’s travel satire White Lotus this month, expect Thailand to become everyone’s must-visit destination. I love Thailand, but if you’re interested in Southeast Asia, consider these destinations which are just as fabulous, less crowded and offer hotels with an unparalleled level of service. In Cambodia, see the sunrise at Angkor Wat and the French colonial architecture of its gateway city, Siem Reap. Eat your way through the capital, Phnom Penh, where art, culture and incredible food come together. Beach lovers can explore Koh Rong Island. Here, you’ll find the stunning four-mile Long Beach, once a filming location for the Survivor TV series. Escape to the archipelago of Langkawi in Malaysia – the beaches are just as luscious, and the water is just as warm as in Thailand, but it’s far less busy. Spend a few extra days in the capital, Kuala Lumpur (KL to the locals), and soak up the Chinese/Indonesian culture and cuisine. For unbeatable views, visit the 86th-floor observation deck at the Petronas Towers. In the heart of Indonesia, Bali promises a slice of tropical paradise. Known as the Island of the Gods, Bali is famed for its lush landscapes, temples, and stunning beaches. Enjoy world-class resorts in Seminyak, surf the waves in Uluwatu, or relax in the hills of Ubud surrounded by rice paddies. Don’t miss an authentic Balinese spa experience or a traditional Kecak dance performance under the stars. See more of Southeast Asia before everyone else catches on!

Cruising offers a whole new way to explore – sailing between multiple ports means you can see more, sometimes circumnavigating countries and traveling on smaller ships means visiting lesser-visited ports without any of the usual crowds. Whether you’re looking to book your first or 50th cruise, this is the time to get serious. In the travel industry, early in the year marks the start of Wave Season, a period from January through March when cruise lines offer their most enticing deals. Wave Season is when cruise lines pull out all the stops to fill their upcoming itineraries. For travelers, this means access to exclusive perks like discounted staterooms, complimentary cabin upgrades, shipboard credits, reduced cost or even free airfare, and more flexible booking terms. If you’ve been considering a cruise, now is the time to make it happen. This year brings some truly exceptional new options for those looking to elevate their cruising experience. Consider the sparkling new ultra-luxury ships that launched in 2024 (these are the ships for those who think they won’t enjoy cruising): Explora II, Ritz Carlton’s Ilma and the Four Seasons Yacht. More new luxury ships include Silversea’s Silver Ray, Cunard’s Queen Anne and Viking Vela. Looking for a little bibbidi-bobbidi-boo? Disney lovers should get on board the new Disney Treasure. One of the greatest advantages of cruising is its incredible variety of experiences. Glide along the rivers of Europe, embark on an adventurous journey through the Galápagos, or indulge in an ultra-luxury escape across the Mediterranean – the opportunities are endless. Perhaps one of my favorite reasons for cruising: see more and unpack once! How would you like to sail and see the world? I can find a ship that works for you! |
